AIZAWL, February 5, 2018: Officers of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Kolkata Zonal Unit apprehended 24-year-old man and son of former MLA from Burrabazar area on 4 February.
Forty pieces of gold biscuits of foreign origin smuggled into India from Myanmar through the North East weighing 6.64 kg valued at Rs 2.16 crores has been recovered from his backpack and seized under the Customs Act.
The arrested man has been identified as Lalhmangaiha is from Tuirial in Aizawl, Mizoram and a college drop out. After preliminary investigation DRI sleuths had revealed that this was not the first time indulging in such illegal activities.
The man has been arrested before the magistrate and further investigation is on.
