Mizoram, March 18: Instances of drug abuse in the state has been constantly on the rise and with no stringent rules to curb the menace, the state has become a vulnerable target for drug peddlers and crimes associated to drugs. In a recent instance, the Mizoram Excise and Narcotics department’s Drugs Disposal Committee destroyed seized drugs worth Rs 2.5 crore in Aizawl, a department spokesman said.
About 2.65 kg heroin, 368.88 kg ganja, 15.42 kg opium and 22.54 lakh Pseudoephedrine tablets were burnt by the Commissioner of Excise and Narcotics department Lalhmunsanga, the spokesman said.
The seized drugs were publicly destroyed following a local court’s order, the spokesperson added.
