Mizoram: CM responds to liquor factory allegations; says govt did not set up construction

AIZAWL, May 12, 2018: The State government has not set up any liquor factory in Mizoram, the Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla said on Friday denying allegations made by Mizo National Front (MNF).

Thanhawla’s denial came a week after the MNF had alleged that the State government was constructing a liquor factory at Chawngte ‘C’ on the Udalthana Road in Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) area in south Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district.

The MNF had further alleged that the liquor factory was on the verge of completion and was expected to become operational after installation of electric power.

Reacting to this allegation, Lal Thanhawla said that a liquor factory was being set up by the authority of Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC).

“The liquor factory that the opposition MNF talked about seems to be the one which is under construction in south Mizoram’s Chawngte under Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC). The district council is not under the control of Mizoram government and the MLPC Act (Liquor law) does not cover the three ADCs in south Mizoram,” the Chief Minister said. He added that the liquor factory was being set up by the CADC government which the State government has not control over it.
