AIZAWL, January 9, 2018: In a heinous incident, a 45-year-old teacher in a government school was arrested for allegedly raping a 6-year-old girl at Maubawk village in south Mizoram Siaha district. He has been arrested and sent to jail on Friday, 5 January.
The accused Robert Nohro, a married man and a father of three kids was a substitute teacher at the government school in the village. During the year 2016 the rapist took the girl to a room by force and allegedly raped her.
Police SP said that the incident could not come to light as for fear of repercussion as being threatened by the rapist. On December 28, 2016 when the victim’s mother filed a complaint against the rapist at Siaha police station, the incident came into light.
The police taking an action against the FIR launched a manhunt and eventually arrested the accused on Friday. The accused is under police custody and currently at Siaha District jail, Mishra said, adding that the police have been conducting further investigation.
Family sources said that teacher Nohro who is a substitute Hindi teacher at a government run Maubawk Primary School had taken the girl by force. The accused asked her to strip off her cloth and when the girl refused, he threatened to kill her. They said that the accused continued to harass her several times and threatened her.
Since then the girl was under trauma and had repeated nightmares. Last year, during the month of December, the girl cried and complaint about her nightmares. The girl on being asked by her parents revealed the heinous crime being sexually assaulted by her teacher. Later, the girl’s mother filed a complaint at Siaha police station on 28 December following which the accused was arrested on Friday.
On the other hand, Mara Chano Py (MCHP), a women body of the Mara tribe based in Siaha and Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP) held a protest condemning the heinous crime. The women bodies have demanded a stringent punishment to the accused.
