SHILLONG: Royal Wahingdoh FC U-16 put up a brilliant show to beat SAI Guwahati 4-0 in a U-16 Youth League, Shillong-Guwahati zone match at Madan Heh ground in Mawlai, Shillong on Thursday afternoon.
A brace from Freestar Kharbangar and a goal each from Rickyson Makdoh and Phrangki Buam ensured the big win for the hosts in a tie considered crucial for their final round ambition.
The Royals started dominating the proceedings from the word go, with the SAI side left doing the defending job all along. RWFC’s perseverance finally paid off in the 22nd minute with Makdoh slammed one in from inside the box to make it 1-0 in favour of his side.
Seven minutes later Freestar, who was fed beautifully upfront by Rheadolf Nongneng, stretched himself to tap the ball into the nets, gliding it away from the advancing rival custodian. The sides went into the break with Royals leading 2-0.
Crossing over there was no change in fortune for SAI as further damage was inflicted upon them four minutes after the hour mark. It was Freestar again who headed the ball into the nets to complete his brace and hat-trick for the Royals.
Phrangki Buam delivered the final nail on the coffin for SAI with a 71st minute header that sailed into the nets.
There was no comeback or even a consolation goal in sight for the visitors who eventually went down 0-4.
The Royals will next take on GTFC on November 12
