Congress President Rahul Gandhi was at his aggressive best on Wednesday when he took on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other rank and files in the Bharatiya Janata Party. Mincing no words, the Gandhi scion who visited poll-bound Meghalaya for the second consecutive time in last one month lashed out at the Prime Minister for being silent on the church attacks which have taken place in Madhya Pradesh and also on the biggest banking fraud involving the Punjab National Bank and celebrity diamond merchant Nirav Modi.
Referring to political horse trading in the state, Gandhi said, “They (BJP) can buy MLAs but cannot buy religious institutions like Churches as that will only show their arrogance”.
Heaping praise on the people of the state, he said, “People over here do have something to offer (for the development of the country). My approach is if India is Meghalaya… Then Meghalaya is also India”.
He also lambasted Modi for the demonetization in which Rs 1000 and Rs 500 rupee notes were junked and said that the “crooks” got their black money white through back doors. However, the common man was made to stand in long queues to withdraw their hard earned money. The Congress chief who took out a roadshow from Air Force Landing ground in Shillong to the Police Bazar was greeted with garlands at various places by party supporters and leaders. People from different walks of life who were waiting along the roadside to have a glimpse of the Gandhi scion took pictures of the Congress president and waved at him to attract his attention. Gandhi too reciprocated at the people in same manner.
