SHILLONG: The wait is over. The much-hyped Highway Patrol Vehicles, fitted with speed guns devices to measure the speed of moving vehicles will finally ply the highways from September 15.
The ‘Flagging Off Ceremony of Highway Patrol Vehicles will be tomorrow at 4:30 pm at Police Headquarter, Meghalaya, Shillong where Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Dr Mukul Sangma will be the chief guest.
In its bid to make the national highways more safe and secure, Meghalaya police has procured 13 vehicles for patrolling duty along the highways passing through the state.
It may be reminded that the patrol vehicles were scheduled to be deployed in the month of August, however, due to unknown reasons, the same was delayed.
The vehicles will be fitted with speed guns devices to measure the speed of moving vehicles besides alcometers for detecting cases of drunken driving.
