Meghalaya: Pala, Jyndiang under scanner for alleged model code violation

By Our Reporter, TNT News | Shillong, Feb 07, 2018:

Trouble is likely brewing for Shillong MP Vincent H Pala and Nongstoin sitting MLA, Diostarness Jyndiang for attending an official function to inaugurate the Hostel of Umyiap District at Tiehsaw village today.

The two political leaders have put themselves under scanner of the Election department for allegedly violating the model code of conduct.

Shillong MP had attended the function as the chief guest while sitting MDC of Nongstoin, L.G. Nongsiej who did not attend the function was supposed to be the guest of honour.

Interestingly, Pala himself sensed that he might have violated the model of code of conduct. “I must have violated the model code of conduct. But I do not subscribed that the rules of the Election Commission should apply to a religious programme,” the Shillong MP said. The sitting MLA who attended the function had also delivered a speech before the large gathering.

When contacted, District Election Officer of West Khasi Hills, Arun Kumar Kembhavi informed that the Returning Officer of Nongstoin will formally issue notices to Pala and Jyndiang as per the report submitted by the Sector Officer.

“We would seek clarification from the two leaders if they have violated the model code of conduct,” Kembhavi added.
