Meghalaya: Nokma’s son in law kidnapped; 50 lakhs demanded for release

Tura, Dec 12,2017: Miscreants, armed with daggers and khukri, day before yesterday, kidnapped the son in law of the Nokma of Bangong Sinwegre while he was at home with his wife and children. The incident has led to a massive manhunt by the police with civilians also joining in the rescue efforts.

Janseng M Sangma was kidnapped by 4-5 miscreants who dragged him from his house before escaping into the nearby jungles.  The abductors had come in mask during the episode.

“The miscreants entered his house and forcefully dragged him out. According to his wife the abductors had daggers and khukri as their weapons. A text message was received after about an hour after the incident wherein a demand to pay the ransom of fifty lakhs,” said EGH SP in charge, Ringrang TG Momin.

A police team was rushed to the spot and search was conducted in the nearby jungles.

“During the search it was known that the abductors had moved towards Khera and the police team also rushed to Khera to search in the nearby jungle. Neighbouring villages were also contacted and also agreed to help in finding out the abducted person.  Another search party was deployed early in the morning to search the suspected areas,” added Ringrang.

During the search, police apprehended two people based on suspicion identified as Sengnang Marak (18) and Robi Marak (19). Both the suspects belong to the village of Rongap Mikgilsimgre under Songsak in EGH.

“Upon questioning they revealed the names of other accomplices in the group. Search operation is underway to rescue d victim and apprehend the accused persons,” said the SP.

Till the time of reporting however a breakthrough in the rescue was yet to be achieved.
