Tura, July 28, 2017: At a time when new insurgent outfits are being floated in Garo Hills and which has created a great deal of nuisance in the region, a sigh of relief can be heaved by the residents of Garo Hills as a most wanted criminal who is also a part of the Achik National Liberation Cooperative Army (ANLCA) was caught in a joint effort by the police teams of North and East Garo Hills. The arrest of the criminal along with most members of his gang comes as a welcome relief as the group had become a huge nuisance to security forces in the past few months.
The arrested identified as Mithun Momin, the self styled leader of the group (ANLCA) had been on the run for the past few months and was caught at about 2 am on Wednesday from a house they had rented in the town of Williamnagar. The arrest came after inputs of their presence in the area.
Originally a resident of Kharkutta area under North Garo Hills, the gang had been actively serving demand notes to businessmen most of which were not reported due to fear of reprisal.
“He has been active in extortion and other illegal activities and we are aware that the group has guns though the same is yet to be recovered. The four are currently being interrogated for information on their activities,” said NGH SP, Dalton Marak.
Also arrested along with Mithun were Chengchak G Momin, Chingsan M Marak and Nasiruddin Marak. The last of the group (Nasiruddin Marak) was earlier in jail and was recently out on bail before returning to the group of criminals.
