Meghalaya: MeECL changes shut down hours for West Garo Hills

Tura, May 18, 2017: The much derided Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) today announced a change in the timings of currently under load shedding from 12 am to 3 am to a supposedly more manageable 4 am to 7 am for the entire district of West Garo Hills. The change will be effective from May 19 onwards until further notice.

The change in timings comes after much derision being by the MeECL over the current shut down which has to an extent even allowed for criminal gangs to run rampant in towns like Tura. While the change in timings will allow for a little more flexibility, the need for the continued load shedding is still being questioned.

“We still don’t understand the need for a shut down when rains have been ample in the region. This still reeks of unprofessionalism. Things have gone from bad to worse with the MeECL over the years and it continues to do so,” said a resident of Tura.

Many also questioned as to why no official statement regarding the need for load shedding has arisen was provided, keeping most consumers completely literally in the dark.
