Meghalaya: Man brutally murdered in Garo Hills, prime suspect absconding!

Tura, July 15, 2017: The body of a man was found today after allegedly being brutally murdered by some unknown miscreants near the village of Haripur in West Garo Hills.

The incident, which allegedly took place last night, has sent shockwaves across the WGH plain belt under the Phulbari police station.

According to family sources, the victim, identified as Oshidur Rahman (25 of Haripur) was called last evening by a friend of his (Rafiqul Islam) of the same village at about 7 pm. Both friends allegedly moved an unknown location and it was also the last time the family members saw the victim alive.

The victim’s family members became worried after Rahman failed to return home late in the evening. The worried family members began a man hunt for their son along with a group of villagers but were still unable to locate him. However this morning his body was found in a boat in a pond in the same village bearing some scratch marks and injury to the head.

Local sources however were unable to state whether there was any form of personal enmity between the victim and the suspect.

The prime suspect in the case, Rafiqul Islam (30) however has been absconding since the murder with police currently on the lookout for him.

A case of murder was immediately filed by the police and the body sent to Tura for post mortem. However the motive for the murder remains unclear.

“We have registered a case and all formalities have been completed. We are currently awaiting the post mortem. Prima facie there seems to be foul play involved though we are yet to fully ascertain the motive. His friend is the prime suspect especially after he has gone missing since the murder,” confirmed WGH police chief, Dr MGR Kumar.
