Meghalaya: Man accused of assaulting his mother in Shillong

SHILLONG, March 18 2017: Crime against women in the state of Meghalaya tops the crime chart with every passing day as police records continue to be filled up with cases either relating to sexual abuse, domestic violence, molestation and the like.

As per police statistics which was updated on March 17, three cases of crime against women featured in the list.

On March 12, one Manisha Thabah lodged a complaint that on that day at 9.30 pm, her brother, Kevinson Thabah assaulted his own mother in her residence at Nongrah, Nonglum, Shillong, causing injuries to her.

On March 15, a woman lodged a complaint that on that day at 7.30 pm, her husband Lurmangkara Wahlang assaulted and threatened her with dire consequences at Lapalang, Shillong.

On March 17, one thirty year old woman lodged a complaint that on that day at around 12 noon, one Khlarsing Lyngdoh Tdong (70 yrs) molested her in the verandah of DC office at Shillong.

As per statistics available in the Meghalaya Police website, as many as 23 rape cases were registered from Jan 1 till Feb 23, which signifies that women and children are not safe in this state, which is often considered as the one place in India where women enjoys utmost liberty and freedom.

A look at the police statistics shows that from the 1st January 2017 till 23rd February 2017, 23 rape cases were registered with the highest number of cases i.e., 7 reported from Ri Bhoi, 5 from South West Khasi Hills, 4 from East Khasi Hills, 2 each from West and East Jaintia Hills, West Khasi Hills and 1 from North Garo Hills.
