Meghalaya: It’s a difficult task to lead a coalition govt, says new CM Conrad Sangma

Meghalaya new Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday admitted that it is a difficult task to lead a coalition Government.

Chief Minister was replying to the remarks of former Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma that the non-Congress Government in Meghalaya is a bundle of contradictions here today.

“There will be challenges in leading a coalition. If we are saying there are no challenges and differences then it means we are running away from the truth,” Conrad told newsmen while speaking on the sideline after the swearing-in-ceremony at Raj Bhavan.

Stating that to overcome these challenges, he said that the allies need to work unitedly then things will move adding that as coalition partners, there is a need to communicate and respect each other.

“It is my responsibility to ensure that we carry everybody along,” newly elected Chief Minister said.

He said that if the overall governance in the State is improved then ultimately the overall development in the State will also go up in a big way.

“We know it is a big challenge ahead of us and we will try to overcome the challenges to the best of our abilities,” Conrad added.

When asked how confident he is that the coalition will survive, he said that the people who are in the alliance are committed and focus to the cause of the people and the State.

“When your commitment is there then we will discussed our challenges. I know we would be able to provide stability since the team is good,” newly elected Chief Minister asserted.
