Meghalaya: Isaiah Phawa is poorest candidate in poll fray

If Ngaitlang Dhar, an NPP candidate from Umroi is the richest candidate in the poll fray with total assets worth Rs 290 crore, then an independent candidate from Nartiang, Isaiah Phawa is the poorest candidate with total assets worth only Rs 1100.

The 29 years old Isaiah Phawa, a resident of Ummulong village in West Jaintia Hills is contesting the ensuing assembly election in the state as an independent candidate and he will go up against bigwigs like former ministers Sniawbhalang Dhar and Draison Kharshiing, former bureaucrat Jopthiaw Lyngdoh, Innocent Shadap of the KHNAM and another independent candidate, Couple Stone Shylla.

According to his affidavit, Phawa declared that his total assets is worth Rs 1100.

Phawa cleared his Class XII from Kiang Nangbah Government College, Jowai in the year 2010.

When contacted, Phawa told TNT-The Northeast Today that he filed his nomination just as a stand-by candidate of the KHNAM party.

“I have no intention or aspiration to join politics. I am a but a strong supporter of the KHNAM party and we all agreed to keep a standby candidate in case something happens. But after the scrutiny, I was informed that I along with the KHNAM candidate — Innocent Shadap are in the fray,” Phawa said.

When asked whether he will withdraw his candidature, Phawa said “Since I do not want to create any confusion of division of votes, I am considering to withdraw my candidature on Monday.”

The last day of withdrawal of candidature is February 12.
