Meghalaya: Final electoral rolls published; 536 polling booths tagged ‘vulnerable’

Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Frederick Kharkongor on Wednesday informed that the final electoral rolls of the state have been published with names of 18, 30, 104 voters.

Informing this here today, the CEO said that the final electoral rolls was published after looking into all claims and objections filed from different quarters of the State.

It may be mentioned that the Assembly elections in Meghalaya is scheduled to be held next month.

Out of the total 18, 30, 104 voters, Kharkongor said that 9, 06, 256 are males and 9, 23, 848 are females.

The CEO informed that this represents an increase of 3,27, 595 voters in the state which shows a percentage increase of 21.8% adding that in the last 2013 Assembly elections, the total electorate is 15, 02, 509.

Informing that the total number of polling stations in the last elections is 2485, he informed that the total number of polling stations at present is 3082 number adding that there is an increase of 597 polling stations, which shows a percentage increase of 24.02%.

Out of 3082 polling stations in the state,   536 have been categorised as “vulnerable”, another 444 critical and 67 vulnerable booths as critical, while the rest 2025 were declared as normal.

It may be mentioned that there are a number of polling stations in East Garo Hills and South Garo Hills districts where security measures have been taken due to militancy-related problems.
