Meghalaya: Fake degree racket busted by SWGH police

TURA, Oct 8: The South West Garo Hills police yesterday busted a fake degree making racket in the town of Hat Singimari in South Salmara in Assam.

The police hit upon the racket after receiving an application for a passport after which it was found that the degrees being scrutinized were actually fakes.

Upon questioning the person who submitted the passport application it was unraveled that one Global Computer Training Centre located at Hat Singimari had been running the racket in the guise of operating a training centre. The centre was involved in printing fake degrees for various amounts of money to be paid by the customers.

A police team lead by DSP (HQ) Sylvester R Marak raided the centre and found a huge number of incriminating documents which were seized.

A notice to appear before the police was also served to the director of the said institution with a note to cooperate in the investigation.

The bust assumes significance given the fact that allegations were earlier made of the use of fake degrees in obtaining AYUSH doctor jobs in various medical institutions. 15 out of such job holders in East and North Garo Hills were terminated from their contracts after the investigations found their degrees to be fakes.
