TURA, October 2: With the whole nation celebrating the 148 birth anniversary of the ‘Father of the Nation’, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.
Congress members of East Garo Hills also paid homage to the ‘Father of the Nation’ singing the national anthem as well as a prayer seeking peace and development in the country.
In a solemn program which saw the participation of all Block Congress Committee (BCC) and District Congress Committee (DCC) of the district, the newly appointed president of the District Congress Committee (DCC) Linderson A Sangma spoke on the struggle Gandhiji undertook to free the nation of colonial rule.
“He stood as an embodiment of truth and non violence through which he was able to free our country from British rule. His role in the creation of the Congress in the country as well as the strengthening of the party is unquestionable. We want to continue emulating his footsteps to see a better India,” said Sangma during the program.
“The ideals of Bapu are even more relevant today when the entire world is looking upon India to show the way forward. His life was the testimony of what one can achieve through struggle and patience. His life will always remain a role model for the entire world,” said PR Marak, the DCC secretary.
