Shillong, August, 19, 2017: With only a few months left for the 2018 Election, Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president, DD Lapang has expressed confidence that the Congress will come back to power after the upcoming 2018 Assembly elections.
“We are going to form the Government after the Assembly election scheduled next year,” Lapang said while talking to media persons on the sideline of the function to observed the 73rd birthday of Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi, and the Sadbhavana Divas at Congress Bhawan here on Saturday.
When asked about the legislators contemplating to leave the party, the MPCC president said that the party is not aware that there are legislators who wants to leave the party. “But I am confident that none of the regional and national parties would be able to defeat the party in Meghalaya. We would continue to rule the State,” Lapang said.
On the party preparations for the upcoming election, he said that the party have started the preparations for the election for the past one year since election is a know agenda.
According to the MPCC president, the party since the past one year one is preparing for the election.
Lapang also said that the party neither cares or does it have time or feel necessary to identify legislators who wants to desert the party.
“Those who wants to apply (ticket) from Congress will come and take their form application and those will not take they will not be with us and they are free to decide….everybody is free to decide his better future,” Lapang said.
It may be mentioned that the Congress will call for applications of candidates for all the 60 seats starting from the end of this month.
“Those who think that the Congress is not a good place for them, they will find a better place and we should not stand on their way,” Lapang added.
The MPCC president also said that the fact remains that there is no dearth of candidates and capable and potential candidates in the Congress.
He also said that many parties may not be able to set up candidates in all the assembly seats but the Congress will put up candidates in all the 60 constituencies.
