Meghalaya: Concealed arms & ammunition recovered from WKH, police suspect GNLA

NONGSTOIN, Aug 30, 2017: Police on Wednesday recovered arms and ammunition suspected to have been concealed by the banned militant outfit — Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) from a jungle located at Shalang in West Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya.

Acting on a tip off, a police team from Shalang along with SF 10 personnel launched a search operation on Wednesday morning at Riangdim-Nengdawak and Wakphangram jungle and recovered many concealed weapons from the area.

“Today morning we received information about the concealment of arms by GNLA militants at Riangdim-Nengdawak and Wakphangram jungle, and immediately, a search operation was conducted and the concealed arms and ammunition was recovered,” District police chief G Kharwanlang said.

During the search, police recovered one Insas Rifle, one AK 47 rifle, one hand grenade, one kg of gelatine stick, ten SBBL live ammunition, 86 AK live ammunition, one magazine pouch, one camouflage pant.

“Operation under Shalang area intensified to neutralist the militants,” Kharwanlang said.
