The Chief Minister while replying to the question raised by the Congress Legislature Party leader, Dr Mukul Sangma to the motion of confidence moved by Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Prestone Tynsong said that it is very clear that this is a Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) coalition Government which is headed by the NPP.

“I don’t think there is any kind of doubt in this. Even in the letter of support of MLAs which was submitted to the Government, everyone has mentioned that they are expressing their support to the NPP led Government under the leadership of Conrad K Sangma,” Chief Minister said.

Earlier, while participating in the motion of confidence which was moved in the House, Dr Mukul had stated that it is appropriate for this august House to know which party is leading the Government.

“We would like to know whether it is the NPP led Government, BJP led Government or a conglomeration of party which is leading the Government,” the CLP leader said.

Stating that it is obvious that the mandate given by the people is a fractured mandate, he however said that looking at the background of the whole campaign, the mandate of the people is to form a Government without the BJP.

“The political parties in their campaigns have promised the innocent people of the State that they have no access to BJP. The various political parties had also clearly stated they will not have any connection with the BJP,” he observed adding that the basic guiding principle of the Constitution is to respect the mandate given by the the people.

Newly elected Assembly Speaker, Dr Donkupar Roy said that this is not the platform to debate on the mandate given by the people.

He however requested the Chief Minister to reply to the question raised by the CLP on the party which is heading the present Government.
