Meghalaya: Buying second hand items blindly might land you up in jail

Shillong, March 18 2017: Meghalaya police have issued an advisory warning to the people of Shillong to refrain from buying second  hand items at a very low rate as these items are likely stolen goods.

This is in view with the rise in theft of car audio systems, woofers and mobile phones. The stolen items have been registered in several police stations in the city.

In most cases, police found that the culprits behind the crime are mostly drug users. The purchase of these stolen goods will only fuel the consumption of drugs among addicts.

Not only the perpetrators but also the person purchasing the stolen product is liable to be arrested as receivers of stolen property under section 411 IPC which can be extended up-to three years.
