With election just round the corner, the congress is leaving no stone unturned to ensure its victory in the ensuing election and retain power in the state. Assam MP and Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi on Tuesday said that the decline of the BJP in Northeast will start from Meghalaya.

Gogoi, who is in Shillong to rally support for Congress candidate from South Shillong Manas Chaudhuri on Tuesday, expressed confidence that the Congress will come back to power in Meghalaya adding that the Congress has a strong connection with the region unlike the BJP, which according to him, has no history of having a role in the Northeast.

“The government at the centre is of the RSS, for the RSS and by the RSS and the regional forces in Meghalaya are Trojan horses,” Gogoi said and reiterated that the BJP is depending on regional parties to go ahead with their ‘divisive’ agenda.

“BJP is trying to form the government with regional parties’ support but we are confident that the people will not accept it,” Gogoi said while maintaining that Congress fights alone and does not adjust their seats with any other political parties.

The congress leader also stated that the BJP-led NDA government in the centre has failed terribly in addressing the problem of unemployment in the country and exclaimed that the Congress has a good track record of creating jobs while focusing on the potentials of the respective states.

Stating that Meghalaya is a centre of job creation in Northeast after Assam, Gogoi said that in the context of Meghalaya, the congress government has created many jobs by focusing on it potential –tourism. “Tourism alone is growing on fast pace and created enough resources for jobs,” said the Congress leader.

Terming the BJP as ‘divisive’, Gogoi said unlike the BJP, the Congress is known for providing the platform to the various tribes and cultures adding that the party is fit for heterogeneous Meghalaya. “And the response that the congress and its leaders like Rahul Gandhi gets from the public, gives us the confidence,” he added.

Meanwhile, Shillong MP and MPCC working president Vincent Pala said that the Manipur episode will not be repeated in Meghalaya and predicted that the BJP will not get a single seat in the 60-seats Assembly House.
