The BJP faced a major setback in West Shillong Constituency after a large number of party workers joined the Congress on Saturday to oppose the party’s decision not to put up candidate from the constituency.
Party ticket aspirant from Shillong West and Meghalaya BJP spokesperson, Sony Khyriem joined the Congress along with hundred of his supporters.
Khyriem also said that he quit the saffron party because of its anti-minority stand.
He termed the decision of the BJP not to set up a candidate from West Shillong as “dictatorial attitude”.
“This speaks volume of the BJP’s tyrannical mindset and the despotic choice,” Khyriem said.
It may be mentioned that the Congress has pitted Mohendro Rapsang against three time United Democratic Party legislator Paul Lyngdoh, The National People Party has put up former Mahila Congress leader Havergail Bareh.
