Meghalaya: Additional traffic posts likely to be set up in West Khasi Hills to ease traffic congestion

 SHILLONG, March 16, 2017: As traffic snarl continues to be a cause of annoyance for the people of the state, the Meghalaya government has informed that steps and measures are being taken and proposals examined, to ease traffic congestions not only in the city streets but also in the highways.

In line with this, the Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh informed the house during the ongoing budget session on Thursday that lack of parking spaces and increase of vehicular movement in the streets are the main reasons behind traffic congestion.

 Referring to traffic congestion in Nongstoin in West Khasi Hills, the Home Minister informed that the State Government is examining the proposal for setting up of the additional traffic posts in West Khasi Hills in a bid to address the problem of traffic congestion in Nongstoin town.

 Replying to a question raised by HSPDP MLA from Nongstoin Diosstarness Jyndiang, Lyngdoh said that they have identified lack of parking lots and the increasing of vehicles in the town as the main reasons for traffic congestion in Nongstoin Town.

 Furthermore, Lyngdoh said that about 1500 vehicles comprising of local taxis tourist, sumos, buses, trucks and private vehicles are plying through the town of Nongstoin daily.
