Meghalaya: Abducted manager rescued; police suspect ex-GNLA cadres’ involvement

Four days after his abduction, the Meghalaya police on Tuesday rescued the abducted manager of a firm from Dikagre forest near Rongsa Awe in South Garo Hills.

It was informed that South Garo Hills District police and SF10 commandos rescued  the abducted manager –Prasanta Tapadhar who was being held captive by armed militant groups, on Tuesday morning.

Prasanta Tapadhar was abducted last Friday from Rongsa Awe from his residence at Rongsa Awe.

According to the SP of SGH Abraham T Sangma,  the police ops team while conducting Search ops in Dikagre forest near Rongsa Awe under Jadi OP, came across some armed persons numbering five-six camping in the forest and guarding the captive.

“The armed persons saw the approaching police team and fired at them, forcing the police to retaliate controlled firing which lasted only for two-three minutes,” Sangma said adding that the the unknown armed person immediately fled from the area leaving behind the victim.

Police suspects that the armed group are ex GNLA militants who were earlier arrested and out on bail.
