Media playing ‘Art of War’ in Sikkim: Will Doklam stand off see no solution!

Know thy self, know thy enemy. A thousand battles, a thousand victories.-Sun Tzu

The Chinese are sharpening their claws in the Doklam area and India sends its master spy Ajit Doval to calm the currents. Hindi-Chini-Bhai-Bhai has just been revived again and this time the media is adding more spice into it.

Media has gone into a huge transition over the last decade and former Information and Broadcasting minister of the previous UPA government Manish Tewari rightly said, ‘THE NEW MEDIA IS RIDING ON THE BACK OF THE INTERNET’. Born out of the ashes of the Cold war, Internet was the product of DARPA(Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) the brain behind today’s internet, media which is known as the fourth pillar of democracy have  reformed itself under this umbrella. Opinions of people are shaped everyday with Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook or 140 hashtag Twitter for instance.

Superimposing pictures to new updates, social media has changed the very nature of our lives. Strategically, media is the new arm of the military as a psychological weapon. From Al Qaeda to Zarqawi’s Islamic State, the media is overridden and misused to leverage and step up the vantage point.

Doklam area and issues with China were never new. India and China have been locked in a face-off in the Doklam area of the Sikkim sector after Indian troops stopped the Chinese Army from building a road in the area.

China claimed it was constructing the road within their territory and has been demanding immediate pull-out of the Indian troops from the disputed Doklam plateau. Bhutan says Doklam belongs to it but China claims it to be its territory.(Source: PTI)

China has been ramping up rhetoric against India over the last few weeks demanding immediate withdrawal of Indian troops from Doklam. The Chinese state media, particularly, have carried a barrage of critical articles on the Doklam stand- off slamming India. The chinese media CCTV used the concept of ART OF WAR on our side with ‘troop levels increasing’ ‘India backoff’, images of burning Indian army trucks(morphed), the players of the manoeuvre is textbook Chinese and they have mastered it from years of practice. It would be alarming that the Chinese stealth fighter Chengdu J-20 resembles the US Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor. Difficult to prove that the Chinese spy agencies or media is involved in the hacking of blueprint out of the American defense closet.

Why does India reveal its military weakness?

Comptroller and auditor general (CAG) report busted the military readiness of the country when it showed that if we wage a full scale contact we would go kaput in three days. Is this a ploy to confuse? Opinions upon opinions have showered in different media outlets in India asking if we are really ready. CAG’S report or for that matter RAW(Research&Analysis) Wing external intelligence of India reports on country’s weakness should never be discussed out in the open. Confusing the enemy or matters of national security should not be taken lightly but it is up to South Block and Commander in chief to plug the loopholes of the country. By deception thou shall do war-Israeli mantra!

Media is not only a watchdog but an important game changer for public opinions. It is better to be regulated or self regulated and balance each and every viewpoint. Chinese media effect is just propelling the country as the next driving force in Asia. Hope India does not misread signals from Beijing!
