SHILLONG: An arrest warrant has been issued on Wednesday by a district session court against the absconding militant turned legislator Julius Dorphang in the Marvelene Inn sexual exploitation and trafficking case of a minor girl.
While police have booked the Mawhati MLA, Julius Dorphrang under section 366 (A) of the IPC and registered with section 3 (a)/4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) and under section 5 of the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act (ITPA), the MLA is still at large.
Ironically, Marvelene Inn belongs to the son of the state Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh, and the women activists of the state are demanding the Home Minister to step down from his post besides deciding to take out a mass rally on January 11 to protest against the alleged tolerance showed by higher authorities to the rampant trafficking in the state.
It may be reminded that the victim had escaped from the inn and informed the police about the sexual exploitation and trafficking carried out in the inn. Following which as many as 5 persons have been arrested in connection with this case. During the last couple of days, the police had arrested an employee of Marvelene’s Inn, three women pimps, Mamuni Parveen, Tarisha Mary Kharbamon, Mona Lisa Shangpliang (22) and 22-year-old Madan Bahadur Thapa of Jhalupara.
