IMPHAL, May 17, 2018: Security forces in Manipur apprehended three Myanmar nationals in Churachandpur district together with some smuggled items.
The area domination party of the Aina Battalion (33 Assam Rifles) under the Churachandpur Sector apprehended the three during routine patrolling at Lungthullen village on May 13, a statement of the Assam Rifles said on Wednesday.
The apprehended individuals failed to produce valid/ legal documents, which was a violation and abrogation of the Free Movement Regime, sources said.
Besides, large quantity of smuggled items from Myanmar and currency notes (Indian and Burmese) were also seized from their possession. On spot enquiry it was revealed that, the apprehended Myanmar nationals were from ‘Vang Teh’ village near Tiddim town of Myanmar’s Saizang city.
They entered India via Mizoram on April 15 last and illegally crossed international border at Zokhawthar village (Myanmar).
All the three apprehended individuals along with the recovered items were handed over to Churachandpur police station for further legal proceedings, it added.
