Manipur Result Update: Meghalaya NPP to play King maker in Manipur Election

Imphal, March 12:  The Congress and BJP have both failed to secure absolute majority belying the predictions of many exit polls, however Congress managed to emerge as the single largest party with 28 seats, just three short of the magic number of 31 in the house of 60 to qualify to form the next government.

The final tally is Congress 28, BJP 21, NPP 4, NPF 4, AITC 1, LJP 1 and Independent 1

In an interview with a National News channel, Meghalaya’s Conrad Sangma, son of late PA Sangma who founded the National People’s Party in 2013  after his expulsion from the Nationalist Congress Party in July 2012. NPP in Manipur with 4 seats secured has placed itself in a king maker’s position whereby its decision to ally with either INC or BJP can play an important role so as to decide on which party will form the government in the state.

Conrad was quoted as saying that a meet would be held on this issue and only after consulting all members of the party, a decision will be taken.
