Manipur: Mother seeks support for her ailing son

IMPHAL, February 12, 2018: A women vegetable vendor hailing from Sagoltongba Makha Leikai sought the help of people and government on Sunday, to meet the cost of treating her ailing son who got injured on January 21 in a road accident.

Heisnam ongbi Ibenu, 45, at Manipur Press Club told the reporters that her son Heisnam Satyajit is lying unconscious at the Intensive Care Unit of Raj Medicity hospital, North AOC and she is facing financial crisis. Satyajit is 19-year-old and a student of class XII.

As per Ibenu, Satyajit drove off on an Activa that fateful day with his two other locality friends in the evening to drop a gift to one of their friend in Nambol.

On their way, police tried to stop them for not wearing helmet, so they drove off in high speed as they were also without their ID cards.

In haste, Satyajit and his other two friends, Konthoujam America and Konthoujam Manimatum missed the potholes of construction work going on in the roadside while giving side to a truck and met the accident.

She said the treatment has cost her around Rs.2 lakh so far and fear that it would even cost even more. She added that her in-laws had also helped her with Rs.2 lakh but is hesitant to spend more.

Ibenu said she has already separated with her husband five years ago and that both of them stay at her maternal home. She also confessed that Satyajit is her only child and wants to keep him healthy and safe.

She said she is a daily wage earner selling vegetables sometimes and also does handloom work.  She emotionally said she is destitute at this moment and has no one to turn to at this hour and urged CSOs, concerned government and public to help her in this difficult situation.

According to her, America and Manimutum are not severely injured like her son Satyajit.
