THOUBAL, April 17, 2018: A man who allegedly abducted a minor girl and threatened to kill her was caught by an infuriated mob who assaulted him in his home.
The man has been identified as Noarem Naocha, 21, a father of two children, and son of Manao from Tentha Heibung.
Sources stated that Naocha and the victim met each other during the recent Yaoshang festival. He allegedly told her he hails from Thoubal Wangmataba.
After frequently keeping in touch through phone calls, Naocha invited the girl to go out with him on April 14. They went out around 1 pm on a two wheeler vehicle, and she was taken to several locations until dusk. When the victim requested to be dropped back home as it was getting late, Noacha ignored her and took a different direction and took her to a hill at Tentha around 7 pm.
Naocha then allegedly dragged the victim by grabbing her hands and threatened her saying that he was going to kill her at the hilltop. The victim started screaming and on hearing this, residents rushed to the spot. Naocha then reportedly left her and sped off. However, the residents had already identified him. They, then, took the victim back to the safety of her home.
The family of the victim, who were under the impression that she had eloped, was waiting on the other side for news on the whereabouts of their daughter. As no one showed up, the infuriated mob went to the home of Noacha at Tentha and thrashed him.
A team of Khongjom police arrived and took Naocha in.
On the other hand, Child Line Thoubal took statements of the victim regarding the incident, and referred her further to CWC Thoubal to conduct medical check-ups and other necessary procedures.
A case has been registered by Women Police Thoubal and the accused Noacha has been sent to lock up for further inquiry.
