Manipur lady to receive National Award for promotion of handloom products

IMPHAL: For the first time in the history of Indian Handloom Chirom Indira from Thangmeiband Lairenhanjaba Leikai, Imphal, Manipur has been selected for National Award for the year 2015 by Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India for her invaluable contribution towards the development of Handloom Sector specially for Design and Development for the Promotion of Handloom Products Category newly instituted by Ministry of  Textiles, Govt. of India.
Starting this year, the Government of India will confer National awards for excellence in design development and marketing of handloom products.The awards have been instituted in accordance with the advice given by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of first National Handloom Day on 7th August 2015; the PM said that Ministry of Textiles may institute awards in the fields of Design Development for promotion of handloom products and Marketing of handloom products.

Chirom Indira is the first Indian lady and only one to receive this precious award for the year 2015 in Design and Development for Promotion of Handloom Products Category. She created history in Indian Handloom specially for the handloom Sector of the Northeastern eegion. Since the last 22 years,  she has been working for the development of Handloom Sector in the region. 
 
The award ceremony will be held on National Handloom Day, Dated 7th August, 2016 at Varanasi.
She is also a member of ”All India Handloom Board (AIHB), MoT,
Secretary ”All Manipur Handloom Exports Development Entrepreneurs Consortium (AMANHEDEC),
Secretary ”Look North East Women Development Association”.
Executive member ”Handlooms Promotion Council”, Manipur.
