Posing with Arms: Dimapur police register suo moto case; married couple, 2 bodyguards held

The Dimapur Police has registered a suo moto case against the newly wed couple for brandishing sophisticated assault rifles at their wedding. the same of which had sparked controversy on social media.

It was informed that the police picked up the married couple for questioning even before the case was registered where they learnt that the bodyguards had handed the arms to them while claiming that they were innocent.

The couple were arrested but released on police bail bond, informed the police.

In line with this, the Dimapur Police today arrested two members of the NSCN (NK) — Ato Sumi (23) of Dimapur and Mughalo (28) of Zunheboto for allowing unauthorized display of firearms in contravention to ceasefire ground rules.

The police have seized the arms; however, after a letter from the Cease Fire Monitoring Group (CFMG) the arms were released on Zimma and the guards have been forwarded to the court. "The investigation will continue," said police officials.

The suo moto case was registered only after the intervention of Governor, RN Ravi who directed the DGP to initiate action against the couple and other accomplices.

"Such activities were not acceptable and intolerable; this cant be taken lightly. This is an ugly and crude manifestation of gun culture," Ravi had said.

It is to be mentioned that the photograph of a couple brandishing sophisticated assault rifles was taken in a wedding on Saturday. The groom is reportedly the son of Kilo Kilonser of the militant National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Unification (NSCN-U) and were seen brandishing automatic rifles – M16 and AK 56 – during the wedding reception attended by their invited guests.
