Northeast’s first organic air-conditioned market to soon come up in Nagaland

Nagaland will soon have an air-conditioned (AC) market for the organic farmers at Dimapur, the first of its kind in Northeast India.

The organic air-conditioned Market, to be implemented by the Nagaland State Agriculture Marketing Board (NSAMB), will have a 500 Metric Tonne (MT) cold storage, 5 MT reefers vans and trucks.

Agriculture Production Commissioner (APC) Y. Kikheto Sema said this while visiting the food processing centre at Mokokchung on Wednesday.

He informed that the objective of this AC market is to bridge the gap between the farmers and the market by creating stable marketing channels throughout the year for the local farmers.

Executive Officer NSAMB, Benri Mozhui said that at present Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) Kohima in association with Kohima Municipal Council has set up a daily organic market near TCP gate where fresh organic produce from all the neighbouring villages are being sold.

APMC Baghty is carrying out the same in its respective market yard every week.
