Nagaland: Zeliangrong’s Lamhainandi village comes under attack from unidentified groups

KOHIMA | September 6, 2019:

Police officials have confirmed that some unidentified groups came and blank fired at a newly established unrecognized village of the Zeliangrong tribe named as "Lamhainandi village" under Peren District.

According to the officials, the incident happened around 4 AM this morning, when some unidentified groups came and started blank firing at the village, a few villagers who were present had fled away when the groups open fired and there are no reports of any casualties.

The unidentified group also burned down and destroyed a few huts including the Church which was build by the villagers.

The officials informed that the Zeliangrong tribe have set up a new unrecognized village under Peren District which the Western Sumi Tribe were against.

The entire incident is related to land dispute between the Zeliangrong and Western Sumi which started few months back. The State Govt had also issued an order not to establish any village.

The Police and officials are on the spot and investigation is going on. No arrest were made till the filing of this report. It is still not known from where the groups came and further details are awaited.
