Nagaland | Three sentenced to life imprisonment after beating man to death, disposing body on Secratariat road

KOHIMA, April 11, 2019: Kohima principal district and sessions judge Khesheli sentenced three persons to life imprisonment on April 2 in connection with the killing of Rahul Dey, son of late Subhas Dey.

According to public prosecutor Kathu Rengma, the convicted trio – Lipise Sangtam, Ngamphong Konyak and Hangtong Konyak, all in their early 20s – had beaten Rahul to death on the night of February 21, 2016 and threw his body below the Secretariat Road here. The body was retrieved by police the next morning after being informed by public.

UBSI H Inaky of North PS, Kohima investigated the case and submitted charge-sheet against the three accused. Seven persons were examined as witnesses during the course of investigation to prove the case.

While convicting the accused, the judge stated that the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt. The court further observed that the accused persons had beaten Rahul and pushed him down the road to mitigate evidence.

The court stated that the accused had committed an act that was likely to cause injury sufficient enough to cause the death in the ordinary course of nature.

The three persons were convicted under Section 300 IPC and punishable under Section 302 IPC.
