Nagaland: NPCC takes out peace rally in Dimapur

KOHIMA | December 22, 2019:

The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Saturday took out a public peace rally against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), and National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Dimapur.

Addressing the rally, Congress president, K Therie stated that the CAA which grants Indian citizenship to the non-muslims of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh if implemented will submerge the tribal people of the north east region.

Former Chief Minister K. L Chishi and veteran Congress leader S. I. Jamir also spoke on the occasion.

It is to be mention that, the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, seeks to grant Indian citizenship to refugees from Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Parsi communities fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh and who entered India on or before December 31, 2014.
