Mizoram | Liquor dealers to take state govt to court for extension of ban

AIZAWL, January 19,2019: Liquor dealers in Mizoram have decided to take the new Mizo NationalFront (MNF) government to court for losses incurred by the extension of dry daysinitially meant only for the holiday season.

The MNF government had banned the sale of liquor temporarilyfrom December 21 last year to January 14. The ban on liquor sales was laterextended till March 10.

This prompted the Mizoram Liquor Vendors' Association and theowners of the state's three bonded warehouses filed separate lawsuits in theAizawl Bench of the Gauhati High Court.

The groups sought to know how their losses would berecovered and whether the government has any proper prohibition policy inplace.

The court has scheduled January 22 as the date of hearingand has asked the state government to produce the proceedings of the Cabinetmeetings leading to the imposition of dry days.
