Mizoram: DRI seized smuggled gold & US Dollars worth Rs 11 crore, 4 arrested

The Director of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and Customs officials in separate raids seized smuggled gold from Myanmar and US Dollars from Kolkata worth Rs 11 crores and arrested two youths from Manipur and two persons from Mizoram.

Md Firoz (25) and Amir Khan (21), the residents of Thoubal district of Manipur were arrested from Darjeeling on Monday evening while they were carrying 101 pieces of gold biscuits and 9 gold bars concealed in a Maruti Wagon R.

The gold, which was smuggled from Myanmar, was 25 kgs 766 garms worth Rs 10,5 crore. The DRI official said the contraband goods, which were meant to delivery someone in Siligugir, was smuggled from Myanmar recently.

The gold was concealed in the silencer pipe of the car, wrapped in a cloth.
