Meghalaya: UDP hints at forming EC with support of MDA allies

SHILLONG | March 02, 2019:

Just moments after the Congress approached the UDP seeking its support to form the Executive Committee in the KHADC, UDP president, Donkupar Roy hinted at the possibility of forming the EC with the support of the allies of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance — NPP, HSPDP and PDF.

"We expect that those who rule in the government will do so in the KHADC," Dr Don told media persons today.

There is high chances that the Congress will again have to sit this one out and like in the Assembly, the INC will have to sit in the opposition as the MDA allies sit in the treasury bench.

"We will hold a meeting with all our MDCs. We hope for the same coalition. We hope that the same coalition rule both at the state and district council," said Dr Don.

When asked whether this statement is a clear indication that the UDP rejects the proposal of the Congress, the UDP president said "I am not saying we reject their proposal. All I am saying is that, we will have to meet all the party MDCs to decide on this."

Meanwhile, in JHADC, as the tally suggested, it looks like the Congress will be sitting in the opposition while the EC will be ruled by NPP along with its ally — UDP.
