TURA | March 08, 2019:

The All Meghalaya SSA School Teachers Association (AMSSASTA) on Friday served a 5-day ultimatum to the state government of the release of their pending 4 months salaries while also threatening to go on a week's strike in schools if the government failed to release their salaries.

The decision was taken during its executive meeting in Shillong today.

On the matter of their 8 months pending arrears, the association stated that it would confirm with the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) on whether pending arrears have been released to the state following which they would contemplate filing a PIL in High Court.

"The education department through and RTI has shown that no arrears have been sanctioned from the MHRD. We will confirm the same before acting on the matter," stated the AMSSASTA president, Stickson Sangma.

The meeting between the teachers also sought the enhancement of the salary of teachers to Rs 40,000 at par with other states.

After the meeting, the leaders of AMSSASTA met Education Minister and SPD (State Project Director) respectively who said that the pending salaries shall be released either in the second or third week of the month of March.
