Meghalaya: Hek alleged of violating poll code; inquiry initiated

Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer, Frederick Kharkongor informed that he has instituted an inquiry into the alleged violation of model code by Health and Family Welfare Minister, Alexander Laloo Hek.

As per the media reports, the Health and Family Welfare Minister has been accused of using official vehicle for campaining in favout of the BJP candidate from Shillong Parliamentary seat, Sanbor Shullai in West Jaintia Hills on Wednesday.

"The District Election Officer (DEO) of West Jaintia Hills has directed the Sector Officer to inqire into the allegations of violation of the model code of conduct by the Minister," Kharkongor said.

He also informed that the Sector Officer has been asked to submit the report within this month.

He said that the Election department will issue a show cause notice to Hek if the allegations is found to be true.

It may be mentioned that there were pictures showing Hek coming out of the official vehicle which was circulated in the social media.

Meanwhile, Hek has denied using an official vehicle for campaining. "I was using a private vehicle of a mahila worker of the party," he said. 

The Health and Family Welfare Minister also said that his official vehicle was being used by his personal assistant, personal security officer and  his driver since he did not wanted his official driver to drive a private vehicle.
