TURA | March 22:

In a new political twist in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), 8 BJP members have decided to extend their support to the NPP led Executive Committee in the Council.

BJP MDCs decided to extend its support to the Dipul Marak led EC after getting consent from party president, Ernest Mawrie.

Through a release by the party, the BJP said that it had moved for 'No Confidence Motion (NCM)' against the NPP led EC against misuse of centrally sponsored funds sanctioned to the GHADC.

"There is remorse among the contractors on non-payment of 40% even after completion of works. Some projects are not completed even after payment of 60%. While some projects against which money has been fully drawn don't even exist," said the release by the BJP MDCs.

The information on the misappropriation came about through an RTI that was earlier taken.

"This among other facts compelled the BJP to go for an NCM as it was a violation of NITI Aayog norms. The EC diverted some amount meant for development to salary. Unfortunately, salary for the GHADC employees is 24 months pending. GHADC needed a change and BJP led EC could have sorted out various issues but one BJP MDC sided the NPP and BJP lost the floor test," said the BJP members.

The floor test a few weeks ago was tied before the Chairman voted in favour of the NPP led coalition.

"So setting aside all differences, we decided to extend our support to the NPP led EC for all round development of Garo Hills. We expect non biased attitude from NPP in matters related to centrally sponsored schemes," they added.
