TURA | OCT 10, 2019:

Angered over the disparity of pay structure, the teachers under the All Garo Hills (SSA) School Teachers Association (AGHSSASTA) have expressed their unhappiness over the government's inability to clear all the pending salaries prior to Durga Puja.

"We are quite unhappy that we did not get paid our pending salaries prior to Durga Puja and want to know why none of the Garo Hills districts were paid their salaries by the authorities," said Stickson B Sangma, the association's president.

SSA teachers' salaries have been pending for more than 2 months now with the AGHSSASTA continuously seeking the clearance of their dues.

The anger of the association was amplified with the month being one of festivals for the Hindu community.

"Meghalaya is a mixed community state with various communities having its own big festivals and celebrations. The aggrieved teachers of different communities have only their salaries to meet their domestic and educational needs but we are unable to meet those needs as salaries are paid once in 3-4 months," said Sangma through a release.

The AGHSSASTA stated that their meeting with education authorities came to nought and their expectations have gone up in smoke.

"We would like to extend our genuine demand that SSA Teachers salaries should be released before time for the festival of every community. We also request the state government in general to pay our pending salaries so that we may able to buy food for our family and perform our duties without any tension," added secretary, B Ch Marak.
