IN PICTURES: Pine Mount school marks World Environment Day

SHILLONG, June 5: Along with the rest of the world, World Environment Day which is celebrated each year on June 5, Pine Mount school, Shillong marked this day with students helping clean their surroundings.

Tripura is celebrating ‘World Environment Day’ with the idea of disseminating messages highlighting the threat of global warming, human-induced climate change, the thinning of the ozone layer and the impact of chemical pollution and deforestation.

The World Environment Day 2017, with the theme of ‘Connecting People to Nature’ gives an opportunity to all echelons to join hands and consolidate our efforts in pursuit of care for the environment.

While speaking to mediapersons on the eve of World Environment Day, Arun Krishnamurthy, founder of the Environmentalist Foundation of India, says that there is a “strong disconnect” between people and the environment because of the digital age.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised the need for nurturing a better planet on World Environment Day today. Modi said this year’s theme of ‘connecting people to nature’ was nothing but a way “getting connected with ourselves”.
