First state-level Ginger Festival to kick-start in Manipur on April 20

CHURACHANDPUR, April 16, 2018: The first two-day long state-level Ginger Festival cum Business Summit will be held at Parbung village of Pherzawl district on April 20 and April 21.

In a press conference held on Sunday at HSA hostel, Rangkai, the organising committee has stated that the festival cum business summit will be attended by the Chief Minister of Manipur on the first day. The agriculture minister, power minister and the chairman of the MTDC have also been invited to attend the festival, added the committee.

The festival aims to stabilise and promote the ginger market for the interest of cultivators and farmers who earn their livelihood through ginger farming, said secretary of the organising committee. He added that inorder to improve the condition of cultivators, all stakeholders will be made to give their contributions and take part in bringing major changes for good. More than 500 farmers will attend the festival and various companies and agencies are invited to take stock of the ginger plantation and its market in the district, he added.

Currently more than 1200 metric tons of ginger are said to be produced at Pherzawl district site which is priced at Rs.9 per kg at Lamka town. The organising committee said that the price has been planned to be fixed at Rs.15 per kg.
