Tripura: Two detained for lynching hawker in state

AGARTALA, July 20, 2018: Two persons were detained by the police on Thursday following the lynching of a hawker on June 28, at Murabari in Mohanpur subdivision, West Tripura.

An official source had said that the duo were interrogated and later released.

The duo were picked up from their residence and were taken to New Capital Complex police station  for interrogation.

Assistant inspector-general Smriti Ranjan Das said two persons were detained on the basis of suspicion in connection with the lynching incident.

A duty officer at Sidhai Mohanpur police station said the detainees were not arrested.

A duty officer in the NCC police station said, "They were interrogated and then taken away," the officer said.

Jahir Khan Qureshi, who hailed from Uttar Pradesh, was lynched by a mob in a Tripura State Rifles (TSR) camp at Murabari on June 28.

On June 28, two more persons were lynched at Bishalgarh in Sipahijala district and at Sabroom in South Tripura.
