Three artists from Nagaland bags Young Talented Artistes Awards 2016-17

KOHIMA, Aug 26, 2017: Three artists from Nagaland were awarded with the Young Talented Artistes Awards for the Year 2016-17 for excellence and contribution to the various folk art forms in the Northeastern region.

Limanungdang Ao and Ariensa received the award for their contribution in the field of theatre while Mannyei Konyak for Wood & Stone Sculpture, Carpentry works, Painting & Sketching.

The young Talented Artistes Award (Year 2015-16 and 2016-17) Ceremony was organized by the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Ministry of Culture at Raj Bhavan, Itanagar on August 25 where P.B Acharya, Governor of Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh was also present. The function also featured performance and exhibition by the awardees.

Young Talented Artistes Awards Scheme was introduced in 2003-04 by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India to encourage and recognize young talents in various folk art forms in different regions of the Country.

The award consists of Rs.10,000/- and a Certificate. Under this scheme, the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) invites applications from Young Talented Artistes to give the Awards in recognition of his/her outstanding performance/achievements in his/ her chosen field every year.

The focus discipline of the awards are folk dance, folk music & songs, classical dance like Sattriya dance of Assam, Manipuri Classical dances, folk theatre, creative arts/painting, etc. in the age group of 18 to 30 years.
