Nagaland: DC office cancels, invalidates non-Naga indigenous inhabitants’ certificates

DIMAPUR, June 8, 2018: The office of the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, has decided to cancel and invalidate Non-Naga Indigenous Inhabitant Certificates, Permanent Resident Certificates and Domicile Certificates it gave to Non-Naga inhabitants of Dimapur who are not covered by the Constitution (Nagaland) Scheduled Tribes Order, 1970 and Government of Nagaland Home Department Memorandum No. HOME/SCTA-6/2006, dated March 21, 2011, Kohima.

Tribes covered by the 1970 Order are Naga, Kuki, Kachari, Mikir and Garo.

The Non-Naga Indigenous Inhabitant Certificates, Permanent Resident Certificates and Domicile Certificates for individuals belonging to communities apart from these stand cancelled and invalidated. "These certificates are no longer to be in use for any purposes," stated the June 5 Order signed by Addl. Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Sara S. Jamir.

The DC's office claimed to have "inadvertently" issued these certificates. Without mentioning how this inadvertent decision crept it, the order stated that "no such cases will be taken up in future till further order from the government of Nagaland."
